In earlier times, parents assisted their daughters in the selection of husbands. It was still a “way of life” in my grandmother’s day. She was born in the late eighteen hundreds and died in her sixties. Such as the life span in those days, and retirement began at the age of sixty-five years.
I remember Grandmother Mary Brent Evans as a little lady with hunched-over shoulders and bluish-gray hair. Her generation was practical, saving, and thrifty. Not anything like we know today, with our disposals.
